How it works

Watch what you love. trill does the rest.

trill listens while you watch and writes your liner notes after the credits. Here’s what happens in between, and what makes it different.

    Just watch

Press Record and go back to your show. trill listens in the background and never pauses playback. Hear a line you want to keep? Press Mark, or jot a word in the optional note box, and keep watching.

  2. 02

    Learn after

When the credits roll, trill writes the episode’s liner notes: vocabulary, grammar and expressions taken from lines you actually heard, chosen for your level. Anything you marked or noted goes first.

Flip cards and shadow the original lines on the web or your iPhone, right after the episode or on tomorrow’s commute. Every card comes from a scene you remember.

What’s different

What makes trill different.

01 · Mark

One button for the line you just heard.

In the Chrome extension, press Mark (or its keyboard shortcut, even from the video page) and trill keeps the last 10 seconds of dialogue. After the show, those lines lead your liner notes, with their vocab, grammar and expressions explained at your level. You never stop the scene to look anything up.

Pick your level once. trill chooses what to teach from each episode to match it, and keeps adjusting as you grade your cards.

02 · Record where you watch

On your laptop, or in front of the TV.

Same account, same shelf, whichever you use tonight.

Web app or Chrome extension
The best experience

Watching on a laptop? trill records the tab’s audio directly, so the sound is clean and nothing else in the room gets in. The extension adds Mark and notes in a side panel next to the video.

iOS app
For the TV

Watching on the big screen? The iPhone app listens to the room, so anything playing on your TV works. Android is coming soon.

03 · Your shelf

A cover for every show. A shelf that only grows.

Every show becomes a collection with the cover you choose: one of our sleeves or your own photo. Each episode you record is pressed onto it.

Miss a week and nothing breaks. There is no streak to protect and no guilt to carry. Your progress is the shelf getting fuller.

04 · Motivation

Your passion is the motivator.

You already want to know what happens next. That pull is stronger than any streak, badge or reminder.

trill turns the shows you would watch anyway into lessons, so learning rides on something you love instead of something you owe.

Start with tonight’s episode.
